Sierra Weiss, Founder and President, was first introduced to people with disabilities as a camper at Camp Ramah New England (CRNE). CRNE’s Tikvah program, offers children with disabilities the unique opportunity to experience overnight camp during the summer. Tikvah campers learn how to make new friends, be away from home, and participate in a wide array of activities. For several summers Sierra participated in CRNE’s programs that gave her the chance to interact with campers with disabilities through joint sports periods, art programs, and much more. The experience with the Tikvah campers was humbling and rewarding. Sierra became so enamored with the campers with disabilities that during her last summer as a camper she volunteered as a CIT (counselor in training) in the Tikvah program and, throughout the school year, decided to volunteer at Gateways which provides her with the opportunity to help children with disabilities learn, function in a classroom, be social, and connect with Judaism and the Hebrew language. Sierra is dedicated to creating arts programs that will allow children with disabilities to express themselves.
